In 1990, Disney implemented several permanent changes to its currency. The written denominations, such as "one" and "five," were reduced in size to accommodate the statement: "Disney Dollars may be spent or collected and saved as souvenirs and are redeemable at any time before or after any period of inactivity." On the reverse side the copyright year has been removed and now shows “ The Walt Disney Company” which continued through to 2001.Notably, 1990 marked the introduction of the $10 Disney Dollar, featuring Minnie Mouse—the first female character to appear on U.S. currency, albeit in cartoon form. This edition celebrated 35 years of magic at Disneyland.
