Disney produced two series of the 1987 Disney Dollars. The first series was released exclusively at Disneyland and featured the statement, "May be used as legal tender only at Disneyland." This initial printing consisted of 870,000 $1 bills and 176,000 $5 bills, which were printed by DPI Printers in Battlecreek, Michigan, and engraved by the U.S. Banknote Corporation. The second series, known as the 1987A series, was released at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. These bills included the updated statement, "May be used as legal tender only at Disneyland and Walt Disney World." Additionally, the type of paper was changed to an unwatermarked version to better withstand Florida's climate. The serial numbers were updated to include a trailing “A” along with a font change for both the $1 and $5.
